El hotel es una casa de mas de cien anos y está ubicado en el barrio
de Barracas, dentro del casco histórico de la ciudad.
En sus amplios patios y habitaciones parecería que el pasado se quedó a
vivir. A principios del sigloXIX, Barracas fue el barrio elegido por las
familias más ricas de la Argentina, que habitaban en lujoas casonas
y quintas. Pero la epidemia de fiebre amarilla del año 1871, al igual
que los pobladores de San Telmo, los obligó a huir hacia el norte
y el barrio se transformó totalmente.Posteriormente comenzaron a llegar
inmigrantes de todas partes del mundo, especialmente italianos, y se convirtió en
un barrio
popular de gente trabajadora.Las grandes casas abandonadas por las familias
ricas de la ciudad se convirtieron en conventillos donde vivian y soñaban
extranjeros que vinieron de lugares muy remotos. Ellos aprendieron en esos
patios a convivir y soñar un futuro mejor y así forjaron un
pais de inmigrantes donde la amistad se convirtió en un rito.
El nombre de la calle Dr Enrique Finochietto está dedicado a uno
de los más respetados médicos argentinos de todas las épocas
y un verdadero mito de la cirugía nacional. Sucasa, hoy declarada
monumento nacional, se encuentra frente a nuestra casa.
Sur y despues Located on the edge of San Telmo, surrounded by the historic sites of the city, our home is more than a hundred years old. In its wide yards and rooms the past remains living.At the beginning of the 19th century, San Telmo was the neighbourhood chosen by the richest families in Argentina, who lived in luxurius country houses. In 1871 due to the yellow fever, they were forced to move up to the north side of the city, which ended in a complete change of the neighbourhood.Immediately after that episode, immigrants from all over the world -though mainly italian- started to arrive and tranformed it in a new popular "Barrio", where working class people resided.Big houses, abandoned by the richest familes in town became "Conventillos", places where foreigners from the remotest places lived and dreamed all toghether. In the open yards - "Patios" - they learned to share and dream of a better future. Today San Telmo is the home of many tango bars, restaurants and antic shops. It has remained it's architectural charme and familiar character.The name of the street, Dr. Enrique Finochietto is in honour to one of the most all times respected doctors in Argentina, a real myth in national surgery. His house, nowadays declared as a national landmark, is located just in front of our house.
